About Your Stay With Us

Valuables - Please leave large sums of money and valuables at home or send them home by your family or friends. If necessary, hospital staff will arrange for the keeping of your valuables and you can retrieve them before you leave the hospital. The hospital is not responsible for valuables kept in your room.

Telephones – Telephone service is available at your bedside. To call outside the hospital from a patient room: Local call - dial 9 + number; Long distance call - dial 9 + 0 and wait for a long distance operator to assist you in placing your call. All long distance calls will have to be a collect call or billed to your home telephone number.

Television – Color television with cable and bedside controls are furnished in all patient rooms. We expect the volume to be kept low to avoid disturbance of other patients.

Medications - Please bring all medication from home you are currently taking. These will be identified and reviewed by your physician and returned to you promptly from the hospital's pharmacy.

Patient Safety – We value a safe workplace environment and strive to prevent harm, injury, or loss to patients, guests, fellow workers, and ourselves. We encourage our patients and/or family to report any concern about safety. Please observe the following safety precautions during your stay:

• You will be asked to state your name and date of birth before each service or treatment is given. This is done to consistently identify the individual as the person for whom the service or treatment is intended, and to match the service or treatment to that individual.
• Use the emergency call cord located on your bed and in the bathroom to call a nurse, rather than attempting movement or action that could result in an accidental strain or fall.
• Do not try to adjust or climb over the side rails on your bed.
• Remain in bed if you are given medication for pain or sleep. If you need to get up, your nurse will be happy to assist you.
• Do not leave your nursing care area without first consulting your nurse.
• Do not bring any electrical appliances, firearms or cell phones into the hospital, as this violates safety regulations.
• Wear slippers or shoes when out of bed to avoid falls or injury and do not walk near areas where the floor is being cleaned.
• Our hospital safety program requires practice drills. Do not be disturbed if you see or hear an announcement of a practice drill for fire or disaster.

Smoking Policy - AGH maintains a smoke-free environment as mandated by law. Visitors who smoke are asked to do so only in designated areas. Do not smoke inside the hospital. Please honor this policy to ensure that the hospital remains a safe and healthy environment in which to recover.

Meals - The hospital's dietary staff prepares tasty and nutritious meals for patients, and guest trays are available for visitors in patient rooms upon request. As with medication and treatment, a patient's diet is prescribed by his doctor. You can listen to our daily cafeteria menu by calling the Menu Line 898-6551.

The hospital cafeteria is open to both visitors and staff during these hours:

Coffee, Newspapers, Vending Machines – Coffee and the local newspaper are distributed each morning to patients and visitors. Canned beverage machines are available on each floor. Sandwich and snack machines are located on the first floor near the main lobby.

Mail & Flowers - Any mail or flowers addressed to you will be delivered to your room. Mail received after you have been discharged will be forwarded to your home address.

Gift Shop - For your convenience, the AGH Volunteers operate a Gift Shop on the first floor, near the Maternity Care Unit, seven days a week. Gift items, candy, and silk arrangements, as well as personal items are available. For more information call 898-6494.
