Laboratory Services

The Laboratory Department at Abbeville General Hospital is a full service laboratory, directed by a physician specialist called a pathologist. The Lab operates 7 days per week, 24 hours per day and provides comprehensive services including diagnostic testing in the area of chemistry, therapeutic drugs, coagulation, serology, blood banking, microbiology, hematology, urinalysis and immunology. Services are provided to inpatients, outpatients, emergency department and nursing home patients.

In addition to the pathologist, the Laboratory Department is staffed with highly trained Professionals such as Licensed Medical Technologists, Licensed Medical laboratory Technicians, Phlebotomists, and a variety of assistants.

Using sophisticated tests and complex automated equipment, the laboratory team can quickly and accurately perform many different kinds of tests to:

• Diagnose illnesses - Lab tests can often determine why you are feeling ill, so proper treatment can begin.

• Monitor Treatment – Lab tests can show how well medication is working or if dangerous side effects are developing.
•  
• Check general health – Even if you feel fine, lab tests can detect many illnesses before symptoms appear, when treatment is most effective.

The department is located on the 1 st Floor across from the Patient Registration Department, and is opened to outpatients from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM on weekdays, and from 7:00 AM to 12 Noon on Saturdays.
