Abbeville General has awarded Medical Scholarships for future practicing physicians at our facilities. The scholarships recipients are: Dr. Rick Faul, Internal Medicine and Dr. Gregory Fontenot, Family Practice.

 

 Gregory J. Fontenot, MD, will be joining Abbeville General in July 2017. He was awarded a rural track scholarship and plans to practice at Abbeville General upon finishing his residency.   The Rural Track Scholars Track is a commitment to work five (5) years in rural Louisiana in Primary Care after Residency.

Dr. Fontenot is originally from Lafayette and received his Bachelor of Business Administration from Loyola University, New Orleans. He went on to earn his Medical Degree from LSU   Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. He is expected to complete the LSUHSC-New Orleans Family Medicine Residency Program in June 2017.

Several awards have been earned by Dr. Fontenot including: Beta Gamma Sigma Honors Society (Business in 2009), Alpha Sigma Nu Honors Society (Jesuit in 2009), and Eagle Scout-   Boy Scouts of America (2000).

Dr. Fontenot is married to his wife, Rebecca, and has a new red-headed child who was born on St. Patrick’s Day 2015. He states: “I am very excited to continue the legacy of my father, who worked as a pharmacist in Vermilion Parish for over 10 years. My family and I are looking forward to being involved in the community.”

Rick J. Faul, MD, will be joining Abbeville General in July 2019. He was awarded a rural track scholarship and plans to practice at Abbeville General upon finishing his residency. Dr. Faul is originally from Abbeville and received his Bachelor of Science from UL-Lafayette with a 4.0 GPA. He went on to earn his Medical Degree from LSU School of Medicine in May 2016. He is currently enrolled in an Internal Medicine Residency Program at UHC and Lafayette General.

Dr. Faul states, “I am very excited to provide high quality primary care to the community that I grew up in. After finishing Internal Medicine residency at University Hospital and Clinics in Lafayette I look forward to practicing in Vermilion Parish.”
